Hey gang--Don't forget, next week we make the group speeches--bring popcorn and snacks, it will be a fun class--maybe we'll hit coffee garden afterwards? We'll see what time we finish--Excellent meeting on 9/9!--You all worked really hard! NOTE: I repaired the problem on our blog with anonymous posting, so you can post away without dealing with any hassles by using the anonymous bubble--Just be sure and type your name along with comments! So, credibility is important for a successful speech. Visit my You Tube masterpiece "The Making of Sandrah's Thesis" at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F16X_AoVd9I (haha) I made this short film with a crew at Sac State as part of my thesis. According to this silly "Making of..." mockumentary, what might I be credible to speak to you about? In 5 or 6 sentences, identify a line or scene and connect it to my credibility:
Here's an example: Don't steal it! ...in one scene you didn't have any cash and couldn't buy parking, so you would be credible to speak about student parking issues here in Sacramento.
Read all previous posts and don't repeat what someone else has said or it won't count, and you may be playful and light-hearted in your examples, as long as you make a connection between what you see and the idea of speaker credibility, or "ethos." See you next week!
So I'm not sure if I understood this assignment, but the video was HILARIOUS! :) Ok here goes...
ReplyDeleteYou are credible to speak about how smoking is a danger to smokers and those around them because in one scene you saw Michelh the French Theorist catch on fire from smoking, and in turn Kennethh Burke tried to save him as he burned to pieces. This personal experience with cigarrette smoking makes you credible to talk about it.
...??
~Sara Perry~
I have to agree with Sara, the video was absolutely hilarious, and cute!
ReplyDeleteIn one of the scenes you talk about multiple authors such as Brown and Jackson. You mention that the two previously mentioned authors that you did your research on, wrote about postmodern feminism performance. Therefore, you would be credible to make an informative speech on their work. You would be credible because you have actually read and gone through their work, and would thus be acquainted with it.
I hope I am doing this assignment right, as well.
-Kim Truong
Good work, also, remember: You could just pickone tiny thing out and connect it to credibility, it doesn't need to be the short film overall: think squirrels, cell phones, credit cards, dinosaurs, ????? SANDRA
ReplyDeleteI watched the mockumentary, It was hilarious. I loved the hand puppets, they really got my attention. I can differently relate to when Sandra only had plastic and no cash. That’s just how this economy is today, mainly based to debit or credit cards. I also agree with the example with the parking availability, I got a $50. ticket my first day of school while trying to purchase my parking pass. Can’t wait to discuss this short film in class.
ReplyDeleteI liked the first line of the mockumentary wild, free and hungry. It shows how it was to find the time to sit down and write the thesis. I feel that you would be qualified to speak about making a thesis because of the procrastination, and trying to find the words to put on paper being a bit unorganized and crazy. I think you have first hand experience on the difficulty with the structuring and writing.

ReplyDeleteAwesome!!! I credible you will talk about team-projects could be a disaster because when your partner doesn’t have any idea about the project and its objectives, she or he just writes down ideas without coherence and doesn’t focus on the thesis statement.

After watching this "Mockumentary" the creditability will probably be the main point, which is the thesis of Sandra. You knew what you were talking about when you directed and produced this Mokumentary. Writing about the view points on how to establish your thesis is a credible subject in your part. However, the ending of this Mockumentary I want to add; is hilarious. How the rolled up toilet paper or paper puppet tried saving the other toilet paper or paper puppet. Lol. I thought that was a very memorable ending. Fantastic.

First all I would like to comment that the Mockumentary was very entertaining. I think you would be creditable to speak about the use of credit cards because that is all you used and I am sure you had several years of experience. It seems as though everyone is so dependable on plastic, including myself!
ReplyDeleteThe video was very funny and entertaining. I did catch a few of the points of the video but for the most part i was completly lost and had no clue what was going on. Maybe its because im not sure what a thesis is or what the movie was based off of. By the way the credit/debit card wave of the future will cause a big brother effect that has already started! beware!
ReplyDeleteFunny video! I liked the squirrel part where it was listening in on the dinosaur's cell phone conversation(cute) and it just reminded me of wiretapping and how we would all be credible for just being citizens.

I thought was video was interesting, but funny. I don't think i quite understood the message, but I believe you would be credible in talking about how intense the thesis writing process is. It seems like every character in the movie was overwhelemed and also the scene where the puppet who was obsessed with smoking said that you drove him to smoking because he was stressed.
ReplyDelete-joanna
Abby Norton!! She deserves a Sammie or something... Ah, the stress of writing an important piece of work. The stress alone is enough to drive you into debt...charging pizza and beer every day, those things make you FEEL better. Besides, if you say you're indie...you're indie. I think that's the only qualification anymore, except that you have to hand-hold the camera. And you did all that! So you are qualified to claim the title of "postmodern feminist indie filmaker". That, and well....you're a woman. I like the squirrels. Sometimes my brain feels like that can of nuts. I need a cigarette.
ReplyDeleteOh, and you like the Pixies, so that definitely makes you indie qualified.
ReplyDeleteyou are credible for the way you used cell phones. pretty much every charater used a cell phone including the stuffed animals. i also like how you were having problems with the credit card machine. pretty much so when something goes wrong at the last moment everything goes wrong.

@@, Before I start, let me just said if the Dolls in this film can have their mouth little bit, that will save me same time not to replay few time for who's voles are who. Now back to the film, in film time 4:10-4:35 a student spent alot of time on a projeck but Chirs just won't make her idea, not even want to hear what she have to say or what is in her mine. That happen alot now a day, People don't respect for each other, that think thier better than "them". This kind of thing always happen, person A have his/her own way, and think that is the only way, that what other said or do won't chance thier mine. (for me, I really want to know what that student in the film wrote before I said no)

ReplyDeleteAround the 3 minute mark, it was mentioned that they tried to inform you about grad school. In regards of being late and being difficult. Something that you would be credible for information as you have completed it. However, I don't believe that was established earlier in the video.
I watched the YouTube video and I thought it was very creative. After watching the clip I feel that you are now qualified to talk about being a puppeteer. It can sometimes be difficult to work with puppets but I think you earned the right to call yourself a puppeteer. Perhaps a comedian would be more appropriate for this particular clip. I believe that you are now qualified to talk about being a comedic puppeteer.
ReplyDeleteHaha not bad Sandra. Based on this video I would say you would be most credible when demonstrating how to make a pretty dry topic entertaining. When you said you thesis I pictured you looking into the camera speaking the entire thing, maybe with black and white montages or something. But you took the topic and ran in a different direction with the puppets and the nature scenes, which threw me off guard, and left me open to watch what came after. This could have easily been a rather dull video, but the use of props and music really made it something different. So, I'd say you are more than qualified to show us how to make a plain topic more interesting. Maybe I'll steal your idea and put the Terminator in our group speech.
ReplyDeleteThat was entertaining. I could relate to the squirrels being lost. I think that you nailed it on the head with the rodents trying to just get a nut. They couldn't figure out what to do. The beginning scene is analogous to us, the students, trying to figure out the speech we were supposed to compose for this week. Our group was completely off when we first began developing the thesis for the speech last week. We were just trying to get it done without understanding what we were really being asked to do until you clarified it. We want a good grade, so we attacked the project blindly like the squirrels who attacked the can of nuts not knowing how to actually get the nuts out that they could smell so clearly through the aluminum can. This was definitely entertaining. Ron B.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great short films. I had a hard time keeping up with parts of it but that's mostly due to the bad speakers on my computer and me being tired. I would relate to being stress and the beer drinking for a outlet. Not the best habit but I've done it and can recommend something a little heather like just taking a walk. It seemed like a lot of stress in the overall film so that is something of credit to talk about too. - Mark B.
ReplyDeleteThe governers appearence in your low budget picture is a good technique to show the terrible budget crisis california is in. I guess the amazing sandra must be a very successful independent film director if she can sign the gov. And it also shows how mature she is to work with someone with a questionable past and stay professional. Who needs plastic when you have the ability to sign the gov with dolls and a unicorn hat. I blame the state of the economy in california on people like sandrah who pay on credit constantly. PLASTIC FOR LIFE! ( foreshadowing kills french puppets!)
ReplyDeleteThomas McDowell
I thought the film was very creative. After viewing it and thinking about the film I think that you are credible to speak of been a student. You mention Blair, Ono, Brown, Jackson and Shurburt. All of which play a role in acadamia. You then speak about deconstruction, postmodernism, poststructuralism and methodology. All of which are subjects that students study. Then you have Burke and Foucault both scholars go up in flams as if to symbolize your frustration or just that I am done with them attitude. Then you used the squirrels to symbolize the student life and how hectic school life can be and drive you nuts or be lost. Finally, throughout the film the actors talk about how you are always late and don't pay for the pizza. All of which are perceptions of how a student acts. Therefor, you are credible to speak of been a student.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this video, it is hilarious..
ReplyDeleteyou are credible to talk about a lot of topics such as postmodernism since you studied the subject.the use of puppets was a smart idea that allows much more flexibility in delivering the points.

ReplyDeleteYou could just pick one thing out and connect it to credibility. The video was quite funny though
I enjoyed these comments very much thanks everyone!!!!
