  1. Hello, my name is Stephanie Brown and I am very happy to be in this class. And proud to be the first to post. For Monday's speech, I interviewed Nancy Yu. I have one question about the intro speech and it is... What is required for the visual aid? I am so not an artist. And I have a topic I would like to start. Has anyone had to give an important speech and if so what was the best part about it and the scariest part?

  2. Hello, My name is Spencer LaVelle. I interviewed Jeremy (last name unknown). Sorry about that. For the visual aid, we can make a "dummy" picture, as in a fake picture, refering to it in the speech. For example, "This is a picture of him when he went to the beach in Mexico."

I have never given a major speech, just a bunch for classes. I guess, my biggest speech recently was for a psychology research methods class I took (since I am a psyc major). In the project, we had to discuss the research study that my group and I had performed, and we were expected to answer questions from the class, relating to material we had learned. The scariest part was fearing that I would get the information wrong, and make my group and I look bad. The best part was getting it all done.

I dont have any questions about the project itself, but something that might draw ideas for questions to ask. My question for further comments. Who is your favorite superhero?

  3. Hi, my name is Alison Koreis and I interviewed Elizabeth Cao. I'm excited I was able to get into this speech class!! So far, it has been a great way to spend my MW evenings (I just moved here from SoCal and don't have much of a social life :)

I'm terrible at public speaking and tend to talk to fast while turning bright red! HAHA. Hopefully, by taking this class I will begin to acquire the tools needed in order to deliver a successful speach.

Hi Stephanie! I haven't ever given a formal speech other than presenations for work and it was for a small office so I wasn't too nervous or scared.

Spencer, right now I think Elektra would be my favorite. She has mad fighting skills and great reflexes lol.

Question: Are you dressing up for Halloween? and if so, as what?

Question: What is your perfect weather?

  6. Hello everyone! my name is Billy Henderson. In response to the questions that were asked: Q1.
I have had to present a speech for a class project once before in the past, and the best part of the pesentation was the reponse from my class mates when the speech was over. It made me feel like my labor for the preparation was totally not in vain, it was a good feeling. I would say that the scariest part of the speech was probably the completion of the manuscipt itself, there were slight concerns about me staying withen the given format for this particular project
Q2.My favorite SUPER HERO, I would say is probably WOLVERINE from the X-MEN.
Q.I am going to be a SCC college student for HALLOWEEN, pretty scary huh!(LOL!)

Spencer, my favorite superhero is Superman (have a tattoo to prove it, lol) I am not going to dress up for Halloween because sadly I don't have any where to go but to take my 20 month old out, she will be an angel! And Hi, Nancy..My perfect weather is cold weather. Light jacket type of stuff!! So glad to be part of a class filled with interesting and fun people. See you tomorrow night, look forward to all your speeches. Good Night, Stephanie Brown

  14. My name is Romila Prasad and I am giving my introduction speech to classmate Negat Hussan. I am also enjoying this class. It would be great if we have a question on communication and we can do better research on speech without been copying other people’s work. And also maybe some suggest on which topics are good for giving speech and audience.

  15. Hello Everyone,
My name is Anthony Kumar and I was one the few individuals who gave a speech about themselves. It was a last minute thing, because my partner did not show up, so yes I just said whatever came to my head. I have enjoyed the past week and hope to progress every week. Any type of feedback would be greatly appreciated, as it would help me improve throughout the class. See you guys tomorrow.

  17. Hello Fellow Community of Life-Long Learners at SCC campus!

I am enjoying our class "Communication 301" "Introduction to Public Speaking." For our first assignment, I interviewed and introduced Giovanna Stalling.

This was a fascinating assignment! Hard to believe I actually earned class points and a grade for having so much fun. It was tantamount to eating a Hot Fudge Sundae with crunchy walnuts and whipped cream with a juicy cherry on top!

I really "clicked" with Giovanna during our in-class assignment during the interview. We had so much in common, such as a fascination with anthropology, sociology, cultural diversity, culture, fine arts, music and Interdisciplinary Humanities.

In this class, my goal is to fine tune my public speaking skills for personal and professional development. I need to learn how to lower the timbre of my voice and how to "project" to the back of an auditorium without a microphone. Actor friends of mine said they practice "articulators" and "speech drills" for pristine diction. I would like to learn how to do this. I have extensive public speaking experience in prior jobs as a Community Organizer, Syndicalist/Labor Union Organizer and professional Human Rights Worker - but I feel I am really at the "amateur" level of public speaking.

    Cool class and rockin' professor!

See you all Wednesday night, 6:00 p.m., October 27th, 2010!

    Colleen

  18. Hi My name is Tracie Bingham

I interviewed Annalise for the introduction speech Monday. Im really glad that she was my partner because she was a real easy person to talk to.But anyway that whole speech thing really made me nervous because it all happen so fast. What im hoping to gain in this class is to learn to public speak in front of strangers at anygiving time.

  19. Hello all my name is Maurice Robinson

    Interviewed Brittany,
It was a nice ice breaker in helping me know the person I sit next to as well as for others that are in class.

I decided to take this class to get over my fear of speaking in public. I am looking forward to completing this class and using what I learned during a job interview.

Am I the only one that seems to feel like the classroom was getting smaller during our two minutes?

So in this taking this class i hope to be more personable and a successful speaker in the years to come. Hope to meet everyone in the class.

So I was thinking we could maybe do a topic about something we all are interested in, maybe Food?

  24. Hello this is Tracie In my opinion on gender differences on listening. I believe that when men are listening it depends on who’s speaking and what part of their body that they are listening from. For example when I tell my BF that I’m coming over his house after class so that, I can have some quality time with him. His response would always be “I will leave the door unlock” and he would already be in bed burning incense and playing smooth music from his i-phone. Because of my past knowledge of this listening behavior, when ask if I’m coming over tonight all I can hear “h..l no because, I want to sleep in my own bed”. So we definitely have different listening difference.
