Your (drumroll, pleeeeese....) LAST BLOG OF SPRING
Hi Gang! What a wild and crazy semester! We've seen some interesting film and video clips, witnessed some unexpected news and world affars this spring and made some new friends too! Pat yourself on the back, it is not easy staying in school, especially with these trying economic times. I am proud of all of you! Every person who has stuck it out in our broken-down, ghetto-fabulous portable with the 20-year-old television and no air conditioning is a better speaker going into summer! For this final post, please share your favorite moment during student speeches and the most important thing you learned in our class (either from your teacher, the book or fellow students). Thanks and have a wonderful summer! Keep in touch now! Blog-on--S

My favorite speech moment in class was during the midterm, when we had to do the speech without preparation of the topic. Each speech had good qualities and most were very funny. That was my favorite speeches to listen to. The most important thing that I learned was tips on how to not be nervous for a public speech. Like preparation and speaking slowly.

ReplyDeleteMy most favorite speech moment was when we started the cultural speech and it was in groups which I like most of all. The foods that were there were interesting and tasty to eat and I learned a lot about every different cultural foods. The important thing that I learned in Communication 301 was to be confident when going up to talk and take deep breath so that everyone can not be too nervous or else they will start to have a nervous breakdown.
YEAH COMMUNITCATION 301!!!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite speech moment was when Sabeena gave her persuasive speech about Bollywood dancing and taught us how to dance during class. It was very fun. What I learned from Communication 301 was that when speaking in public it is important to not speak too fast or too slow so that the audience can easily follow your speech.
Bye Everyone! Have a Great Summer!
Kim! We missed you at Coffee TH!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite speeches were also our impromptu midterm speeches. I think those speeches were a really good challenge for us becoming better public speakers. I think that without knowing the topic ahead of time and without any preparations, everyone did a wonderful job in making those speeches. All of them were very interesting and funny. Especially Abra’s “Justin Beaver” speech.
ReplyDeleteThe most important thing that I have learned from this class is that when making speeches, it is best to be prepared, know the material well, and be relaxed. If you know your material well enough, you would not forget everything even if you get nervous.
I wish the best for everyone and have a great summer!!!

My favorite speech was when we did a cultural group speech. It is one of my favorite because it was fun and there was different kind of food to eat. I also learned a lot about other cultural food that I had never heard before. One thing I have learned in Comm 301 is that we should speak loud and proud when we are speaking in front of a crowd. I am a shy person when I speak in front of people, so now I like to speak my mind.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun being in this class. I've really enjoyed it!!

My favorite speech was the very first one where we had to introduce the first person and had to say one false fact about them. It really broke the ice for the class. Someone even took it as far as talking about porn! I think if we didn't have that as an assignment, this class wouldn't be as good as it is now. One thing that I have learned in this communications class is to pick a fun topic that will intrigue the audience to listen. Whether they disagree or agree...they will listen to your opinion and let them know that there will be different views on people's opinions. I always looked forward to this class because it was fun and entertaining. Even though we were stuck in that ghetto portable or locked out, Wheeler always had an alternative and made it fun to come to class.
ReplyDeleteHope everyone does awesome on their finals and has a great summer! =]

I agree with Mary on the introduction speech being the ice breaker. Some of the topics were extreme! lol but definitely effective. I've learned the organizational structure a bit better, I mean we emphasized on it so much that I can totally remember it step by step now (thanks teacher! ^_^) and being able to memorize and use that speech structure effectively improves your overall speech because everything is kept organized and concise.

I think the introduction speeches were the best because it was fun getting to know everyone in class. That ice breaker really help everyone from the awkward silence and getting to know one another.
ReplyDeleteI learned how to organize my speeches much better and when it comes to talking in front of crowds now, I know how to introduce my points and not go all over the place with my thoughts.
Sabeena Ghani
I think that a couple of my favorite speeches were probably the introductory speeches because we got to know about each other which is so important since it made us feel more comfortable with having to give speeches in front of each other. Also I think that the persuasive speeches were pretty cool because it was interesting to see what people would try to persuade us to do.

My favorite moments during the speeches were any of the speeches about food. It is always nice to get an afternoon snack. Also it really helped understand more about the foods presented. I think that while the midterm was really hard, it really helped me get over stage fright because it really cannot get any harder than that.

My favorite moments were speeches made by Sabeena and Abra. Whenever they get up in front of the class, you know they'll say something funny.
ReplyDeleteI learned the most from the midterm--with the impromptu speeches. I learned to better organize my thoughts and how you can crash and burn if you don't give yourself enough time to prepare a speech.
I had so many exciting moments beginning with the introductory speeches to the persuasive speeches. My favorite moment was watching "The Social Network" movie in class. Honestly, it created a very fun and relaxing environment for me at those times, I didn't feel like I was in class anymore. It really helped me destress from other hassles of my other classes.
ReplyDeleteMore importantly, I learned how to prepare speeches irrespective of the place, time or kind of speech. I learned how to organize my ideas, get my audience's attention as well as send my message across without offending anyone.
This was a very enjoyable class despite the analog room and the poor air conditioning. Each speech had it own personality but my favorite was the third one. I learned a lot and the best tool was actually getting up in front of class. With the feedback I learned to slow down and annunciate more clearly. The most valuable tool I believe given to us was the outline.

I honestly can say I loved every speech this semester . Some were very affective and made you think. Most of them made me laugh because we have a lot of awesome funny people in our class .I'm really glad I was lucky enough to be in this class it made my fear of public speaking a little easier . Good luck to everyone for summer and full semester . sharnell Martin
ReplyDeletethis semester was super awesome fun :) i don't think i could pick a favorite moment. I liked when we went to the coffee shop!

I can honestly say that I had such a fun time in this class! It was a breath of fresh air to actually WANT to go to class, instead of dred about the idea. As far as having a favorite speech, I don't know if I could pick one. I liked listening to the introduction speeches, but my favorite speech to present was the informative.
ReplyDeleteWhen this class first began, I can honestly say that I didn't have the slightest clue on how to give a speech. I have learned so much; overall, organization of a speech outline. I am certain that everything I have learned will come in to be useful in the future!
